If you have a very old piano, and want to get it restored, such as an old Steinway, there are other options available through stores such as Lindeblad Piano Restoration. They restore older pianos, such as the Steinway Model C shown below. It may be worth looking into if you have an older grand or upright piano.

Tuning by Ear:

People ask me frequently if I tune the piano by ear.  I use both my ear and the tuning device (Accu-tuner) to tune pianos.  There is a simple video below which gives a general explanation which may answer some questions (video used with permission).

To tune a piano by ear, you only need a tuning lever, a mute, and a tuning fork.  With that said, I strongly recommend that you do not try to tune your own piano. since broken strings, bent pins and pin block problems can happen.  Improper equipment  may also make the piano difficult to tune in the future if the pins are chewed.

I travel to Alpine, American Fork, Cedar Hills, Heber, Highland, Lehi, Lindon, Mapleton, Orem, Payson, Pleasant Grove, Provo, Salem, Spanish Fork .
